About Us:

We provide quality assured Electrical Engineering, contracting and consultancy services to blue chip clients on various geographical locations across Ireland, UK and Mainland Europe.  We specialise in full turnkey solutions up to and including 275KV in the Renewables sector and other Mission Critical Facilities.

As Principal Contractor on the first of kind installation of a Hydrogen Electrolyser on the island of Ireland within Wind Farms, we take Pride as a front runner contributing to the decarbonisation of the electrical grid infrastructure.  Helping lead both Ireland and the UK in achieving our Net Zero targets by 2050.

About the Role:

The Electrical Design Engineer will play a key role in developing safe, efficient and technically compliant electrical solutions, working closely with our Project Managers, site teams, clients, utility providers, consultants and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.

The role will involve the preparation and review of electrical designs, drawings, calculations and technical documentation, including single-line diagrams, HV layouts, cable sizing, earthing, protection and control systems and associated electrical studies. The successful candidate will also support the specification and technical review of key electrical equipment, ensuring designs meet client requirements, applicable standards and project specifications.

As part of a growing engineering business, the role provides an opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of technically challenging projects, contributing both independently and collaboratively to the development of practical engineering solutions.

Specific Responsibilities:

·       Develop and deliver electrical designs for HV electrical infrastructure across renewable energy and hyperscale projects throughout the UK and Europe.

·       Produce and review electrical design documentation including single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, cable schedules, equipment layouts and technical drawings.

·       Carry out electrical engineering calculations including cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit calculations, earthing and protection requirements, as appropriate to the project.

·       Support the development and review of protection and control philosophies, ensuring appropriate coordination and integration across electrical systems.

·       Prepare technical specifications and support the selection and review of HV/LV equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection equipment, cables and associated electrical infrastructure.

·       Review client specifications, tender documentation and technical requirements to ensure proposed designs meet contractual and operational expectations.

·       Ensure designs comply with relevant UK, European and international standards, client specifications and applicable regulatory requirements.

·       Work closely with Project Managers, site teams, clients, consultants, utility providers, suppliers and subcontractors to resolve technical queries and develop practical engineering solutions.

·       Review supplier and subcontractor technical submissions, drawings and equipment documentation.

·       Provide technical support during project delivery, installation, testing and commissioning, including responding to site-based technical queries.

·       Participate in design reviews, technical meetings and client meetings, clearly communicating design decisions and engineering solutions.

·       Identify potential design risks, technical challenges and opportunities for improvement at an early stage.

·       Support the development and continuous improvement of Lagan Energy Engineering's internal design standards, processes and engineering capability.

·       Maintain accurate design records and ensure appropriate document control throughout the project lifecycle.

·       Where required, support tendering and pre-construction activities through technical reviews, design input and development of proposed engineering solutions.

Person Specification:

Essential Criteria:

·       Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

·       Previous experience within a Design Electrical Engineering role or similar.

·       Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills.

Desirable Criteria:

·       Previous experience within the renewable energy, power generation, utilities, data centre or hyperscale sectors.

·       Experience working directly with DNOs.

·       Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration with an appropriate engineering institution.
